The Period Pioneer
Help Empower Young Minds with Essential Period Education
My name is Colleen, and as a parent of an incredible 12-year-old on the autism spectrum and a spirited 10-year-old with ADHD, I've witnessed firsthand the unique challenges that kids with sensory struggles face. Managing periods is a universal journey that can be particularly challenging for younger individuals and their parents — especially within our community.
What started as a Girl Scout project making Blossom Bags — kits containing pad samples, disposal bags, and an information card — grew into something much bigger. During our workshops, we talk all things periods: sharing stories from adults, connecting with fellow scouts who've already gotten theirs, and creating a safe, supportive space for children aged 9–12 and their parents to prepare for this significant life change. The response has been overwhelming, and the gratitude I've received has fueled my passion to expand this mission.
I am committed to founding The Period Pioneer, a non-profit dedicated to period education and workshops — building a more informed, confident, and supportive environment for children and their families. To make this a reality, I need help covering the application, attorney, and NY state fees required to establish our non-profit status.
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to ensuring that future generations grow up with understanding, support, and less stigma around this natural part of life.
